Screening of the film “Muzaffarnagar Baaqi Hai”

Progressive Students’ Forum (PSF)
Tata Institute of Social Sciences

cordially invites you to the screening of

MUZAFFARNAGAR BAAQI HAI…
(Muzaffarnagar Eventually…)

In September 2013, Muzaffarnagar & Shamli districts of western UP, witnessed one of the worst anti-Muslim pogroms. More than 100 people were killed & close to 80,000 people were displaced. In the past, the two districts have seen relative harmony between Muslims & Hindus. What happened this time? The film looks at many facets of the massacre- the question of women’s honour, communal polarization orchestrated by Hindu nationalist organisations, breakdown of Bharatiya Kisan Union, role of the ruling party- SP- in the state, etc. All these are weaved together by the 2014 General Election campaign. The film looks at how the massacre finally found its resonance in these elections. But in the middle of this gloom, it narrates the tale of a continued and growing resistance against communal-corporate nexus. And so, the film asks the question, what will be the fate of Muzaffarnagar, eventually?

Recently, ABVP members had tried to stall its screening at Delhi University’s Kirori Mal College. 25th August marks the India-wide screening of this film as a protest against attempts to silence voices of truth, justice & dissent.
