Maharashtra has been rocked by yet another brutal attack on Dalits. On this Diwali-eve, three members of a Dalit family were brutally murdered and their mutilated body parts dispersed on a farm in the village of Javkhede Khalasa-Kasarwadi in Pathardi taluka of Ahmednagar District. The police have not able to arrest anybody till now. Ahmednagar has been a hotbed of atrocities against Dalits in the recent past. In April 2014, a Dalit teenager was strangled to death and hung from a tree for talking to an upper caste girl in Jamkhed taluka of the district. In January 2013, three Dalit youth were hacked to death in Sonai village of the district.
To protest this killing and demand action, a demonstration has been called by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Maharashtra and Jaati Ant Sangharsh Samiti at Dadar Station East, Mumbai on 31st October at 5 pm. The Progressive Students’ Forum (PSF), TISS strongly condemns the series of gruesome atrocities on Dalits in Maharashtra and supports the demonstration called by DYFI. It urges all progressive and democratic sections of society to join this demonstration to demand an end to such inhuman acts and justice for the aggrieved families.
